Norm Abrahamson provided two Excel files to the SSHAC SSC TI Team via Steve Thompson on 9/2/2014. These files provide the PG&E Seismicity Catalog that is the proposed basis for the background source zone, and a grid file that represents the proposed background zone.

This Readme file documents the content of the Excel file that provides the PG&E Seismicity Catalog and the data extracted from that result in the Earthquake Catalog appendix text file.

The File Attachment_F-3.txt is a tab-delimited text file extracted from the original excel file "2012M3catalog_v2 (version 1).xls"

This excel file provides an earthquake catalog for M>=3.0 for the period March 25, 1806 to February 6, 2009.

This workbook contains five tabs, or worksheets. From left to right, these are:

M3plus_catalog
FormattedM3plus
Final Declustered
mainshocks
MS_near_DCPP

The file Attachment_F-3.txt contains the data that are in the "Final Declustered" tab.

The earthquakes are identified by a "PGEID" that represents the Year,Month,Day,Hour,Minute (YYYYMMDDHHMM). There is no definition of what magnitude scale is used (assume moment magnitude). All depths are listed as "00000"

Attachment_F-3.txt contains 6684 rows of data and one header row. There are 7 columns
Column 1 is PGEID
column 2 is MAG; presume moment magnitude
Column 3 is "CLUSID" - interpreted to be a unique number of a cluster of events (Reasenberg, 1985).
Column 4 is "IND" - values are 0 if event is interpreted to be independent or a mainshock; 1 if event is interpreted to be a dependent event (foreshock or aftershock; part of a cluster).
Column 5, 6, 7 are Lat, Long, and Depth. Lat and Long are in decimal degrees; Long values are negative. All depth values are zero.
